Twentysix twentysix by Antoine Savignat

You can’t imagine how thrilled I was to find a copy of Twentysix twentysix, a book by Marseille-based visual artist Antoine Savignat, in my mailbox today. The project faithfully recreates the format, structure, pagination and design of Ed Ruscha’s Twentysix Gasoline Stations (1962), bringing together a selection of works by artists who have revisited, reinterpreted or parodied this landmark work of contemporary art.

More than just a catalogue of works inspired by Ruscha’s original, the book opens up questions about appropriation and authorship in contemporary art, while exploring how a work can remain relevant more than six decades after it was first created.

The book features work by some truly remarkable and established artists, including Jeff Brouws, Kim Stringfellow, Iñaki Bergera, Eric Tabuchi and Takashi Homma… and you’ll also find my Twentysix Abandoned Catalan Gasoline Stations among them. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Antoine Savignat for making room for my work alongside that of so many artists whose work I deeply admire.

Un grand merci, Antoine! I’m sure this fantastic project will get the recognition it deserves!
